The Saga of My Cell Phone
I left work around 9:15 on New Year's Eve, and drove straight to a friend's house to ring in an entirely new year and close the door on the completely exhausting year of 2008. My resolution this year was to be happier, which basically depends, of course, on the decisions that I make. So, I was furious when the new year was only an hour old and I made the stupid decision to drive away from my friend's house, leaving my cell phone on the snow near where I parked. You see, I had known I couldn't find my phone, but I called it using someone else's phone and could hear it ringing. I should have immediately located the phone, but it was eight degrees outside and I was holding everyone up and I assumed it was somewhere in my car that I just couldn't see in the dark. It was not. I looked everywhere for it. And I tried to go back to my friend's house to look for it, but I'd parallel parked over a mound of snow and my car wasn't getting traction so I gave up. And it was all terrible. I'd wanted this year to start off on such a good note, and instead I'd been idiotic, and I am not a person who has time to be stupid. My sisters promised me that they would go buy me a new cell phone as part of the errands they were going to perform for me--which included a month's worth of laundry and taking down my Christmas decorations, poor things. But, the following morning, a friend from work called my cell phone and spoke to a guy at the MBTA who said I'd left it on the bus and that it was at the lost-and-found. And then my phenomenal sister drove all over a sketchy area of Charlestown to find my phone and return it to me. I was so incredibly grateful, at this omen of good luck, correcting the start my 2009 had gotten off to. And then things kind of tipped into place and I very unexpectedly have this weekend off, so HOORAY. I am hoping that my luck holds, and that getting this weekend off doesn't compromise the weekend when I have Killers tickets, but I'm trying to take it one step at a time. Planning ahead doesn't work well in my job.
Anyway, I've been a bit out of it this week, and I don't know why (hmmm, maybe the all-nighter on Sunday had something to do with it...), and I think I possibly missed a posting? Maybe? It's unclear. But there'll be a posting at some point. My poor beta, who has had to deal with me being completely unavailable for her fics, has been e-mailed to signal that I have emerged from my work -related stupor.
And now, with a night completely off, I am going to take a bubble bath, do some more laundry, maybe pay some bills (a radical idea!), catch up on LJ, and possibly even write some little ficlets! HUZZAH! And Happy New Year!
