Kony 2012

I've seen references to this all over, but I didn't really know what it was. Then [livejournal.com profile] sensiblecat forwarded me the video, and it's amazing, and you should watch it. Definitely. Especially if you are like me, and you feel like the rhetoric surrounding you is filled with so much hatred that you despair for our future. This video reminded me that, actually, the world is populated mostly by pretty amazing people, and that means there should be no cause for despair as long as we remember that about each other, and respect each other, and take care of each other.

You should also be aware of this before donating any money.

I accept there is a lot of controversy about it. And I don't hand over money lightly. But what did move me about it was that it showed younger people than me taking the initiative to challenge an unacceptable situation. I think we have to be careful - ask the right questions, by all means, but let us not allow cynicism to crush what is essentially a helpful and a hopeful development.

For anyone interested, I've written more (with links both for and against) here:

Thanks for this.

It's sad, I wanted something to be uncomplicated for once. Sigh.
