Advent Drabble 18 - Christmas Scents

It’s odd to John how familiar it’s become for him to spend Christmas at a grand estate. It’s all so beloved to him now as the place where so much perfect madness happened. He navigates its layout, including its multiple staircases. He recognizes the sounds of its various antique clocks around the hallways. But mostly he associates the house with the smells of Christmas: the freshness of the greenery, the spices from the mulled wine, the rich steam of decadent puddings. John would marvel at the Christmases he experiences here – but he marvels daily at Sherlock, so that’s nothing new.

Oh that's lovely. I do think our sense of smell is great, allowing us to associate smells with different places and events in our lives.

I think smell is supposed to be our sense that's best at being memory-triggered like that.

Aaaaaah, it's so lovely and Christmassy, I love it, thank you so much. There's such a feeling of cosiness, comfort and quiet happiness, and I can imagine theses scents so well. Thank you again!

P.S. Seeing what you did to nativities scenes and gingerbread men I was a tiny bit afraid of what you'd do with my prompt but it's perfect and not gory at all! :D
