Excerpts from the Travel Journal, Day Five: Hamlet

The next day was our Charlecote (pronounced Charle-cut) day. We woke in the morning and went down to the little shop. A house tour came with our stay, and we were able to do a little pre-tour that took us through the house while it was still shut up, so they could tell us about the preservation efforts. It was actually really interesting. When you think of exactly how many of these old houses are scattered throughout the country, you cannot imagine how much effort and expense must go into their upkeep.

Excerpts from the Travel Journal: Day Six--Wells and Cheddar

The next morning was a very early morning, because we were meeting T at Wells Cathedral at 10:30. The drive was not long distance-wise but took forever because we could only take the motorway so long. We arrived at Wells and ignored Verity (ha ha ha!)’s directions, because she seemed to be taking us away from the cathedral. Once again, AT OUR PERIL. We parked and walked to the church we’d found,

which had a sign proclaiming it to be the parish church of St. Cuthbert. This seemed to be a funny thing for the cathedral to be called, and I noticed in the distance another big spire.

“Guys,” I said. “I don’t think this is the right church.” We met an older lady coming out of the church, who confirmed my suspicions, but she said the town was small and it would only take “young things” like us ten minutes to walk to the cathedral. She then asked us where our accent was from, because it was so “lovely and soft.”

Excerpts from the Travel Journal: Day Seven--Charlecote AND DAVID TENNANT

The next day we drove back into Stratford to duck into the Internet café. We also tried to buy meat for the pot roast I was making at dinner, but the little store in town didn’t have it, nor did the toy store next door have any fun DW toys. FAIL. jlrpuck ducked in for coffee, which took forever, because they were not so into working quickly, then we drove to the bigger Tesco to buy the roast.
