Christmas, for some reason, was much busier than I expected it to be, so I didn't have a chance to do any posting once I got to my parents' for the holiday. So, here are all the remaining drabbles, only slightly late. Christmas is a season, so let these kick off your twelve-days, if you will. I hope everyone who celebrated had a very merry holiday, and that those who don't do Christmas enjoyed an extra-lovely weekend.

The first time Brem rode the London Eye, he was out of university.

“It was tons of fun,” he said. “Why haven’t we done it before?”

“It’s so slow,” complained the Doctor.

“But the view’s fantastic.”

“You could just fly the TARDIS over London.”

“Your father doesn’t like the London Eye,” said Rose, “because he failed to figure out the obvious fact that the Autons were using it as a transmitter. I had to tell him.”

“You know, you also get a great view of London dangling from a barrage balloon,” commented the Doctor, sourly.

Rose grinned at him cheekily.

“Are you giving Harry ice cream for dinner?” Matt asked.

Athena froze in the process of giving Harry ice cream for dinner. “No?” she tried.

Matt sighed. “I suppose you’re going to tell me that, being Gallifreyan, he doesn’t need proper nutrition.”

“He just needs different nutrition.”

“He’s only a quarter Gallifreyan.”

“It’s the dominant quarter.”

Matt sighed again.

“It’s green tea ice cream. Super-heated infusion of free radicals and tannin.”

“Except it’s not heated. It’s ice cream.”

“You’re so nitpicky,” said Athena, and then, “It’s a good thing I find nitpicking sexy.”

Harry giggled and ate his ice cream.

He first heard the Christmas pickle story in university. Matt had (with some alien help) smuggled a Christmas tree into the dorm room, and Seth from down the hall hid a pickle in its branches and told a long story about the German tradition of hiding a pickle in the Christmas tree.

Brem listened, eyebrows drawn together, thinking how he’d never heard of such a tradition.

And he stated it definitively after Christmas break.

“There is no pickle tradition in Germany,” he told Matt.

“Did you actually go to nineteenth-century German to verify that?” Matt asked, knowingly.

“Maybe,” Brem admitted.

This drabble requires a little bit of backstory. Originally, it was the last drabble scheduled to be posted (although I have since added one that I'll be posting forthwith), and I thought, with the last drabble, to leave all of you with a little bit of an extra Christmas treat, which is a drabble that could fit very nicely into Fortuna's own full-length story, which I have now started to write. So, as a tiny sneak peek:

***

Twenty-first century Christmas traditions. Sometimes, the Doctor’s children had to run through a mental Rolodex, and stop on the proper entry, and study it. Sometimes, if you were distracted, as Fortuna happened to be, by nagging, potentially world-ending puzzles, you could easily forget that standing under mistletoe at a holiday party was asking for trouble. If a kiss was trouble. And it could be, depending on who was doing the kissing.

And, when he kissed her, even though it was light, brushing, across the cheek, the thoughts that flitted across Fortuna’s mind were, Mistletoe. Twenty-first century Christmas. And, Definitely trouble.

“It’s not like you’ll never come back here,” his father pointed out, confused, when Brem requested one last walk through Harvard Square before they left. “You can come back all the time, if you want.”

“I know,” said Brem, wistfully. “But it won’t be the same.”

And the Doctor understood that, the way everything in the universe had looked different to him after he’d used the Moment. And, what loomed more importantly now, the way it had all looked different again after Brem had been born.

He wandered with Brem, through every nook and cranny of Boston Brem wanted to.
