Oh, YAY! I'm so glad you loved this so much! I didn't know this was going to be a re-telling of End of Time until very late in the game, but once I figured that out, this story just RACED right out of me.
It's true, I think Matt and Athena could have danced around each a bit more, but I was being impatient and wanted to advance the plot. ;-)
I don't know where I got the idea to put the drums in Athena's head, really (maybe just from the fact that it was her story, so she should be the most important character in it), but I was very determined that End of Time turn out differently EXACTLY BECAUSE the Doctor had allowed himself to love and given himself a support system. I wanted that to be the lesson, that it had never been a mistake to let himself have this life he had so desperately wanted, that having all of them *saved* him.
I love to write the Master. I do love when he shows up in the Chaosverse, it's just loads of fun.
