“Ow,” said Rose, and stuck the tip of her finger in her mouth and sucked.
The Doctor stared.
“Paper cut,” she said.
Paper cut, thought the Doctor, in awe, and spent the next few days handing Rose various bits of paper, in the hope that she would get another paper cut.
When it happened, finally, he almost missed his chance.
“Ow,” said Rose, and lifted the afflicted finger up—
--And he intercepted it, grabbing her hand and sticking her finger in his mouth and sucking on it.
“Better?” he asked, eventually.
“You lunatic,” she said, and snogged him senseless.

Date: 2010-12-21 10:05 am (UTC)I've said this several times before, so please forgive me for being repetitious; I LURVE how you manage to infuse so much into such concisely worded snippets. Seriously, whenever I pimp your stories, this is one of my favorite aspects about your writing style which I praise with far-less concisely worded babbling. I just finished reading a novel which had a lovely plot, but which annoyed me immensely because the author spent way too much time telling me everything her characters were thinking - EVERY DAMN THING - rather than just showing us what was going on. So your drabble was a lovely treat to help cleanse my literary palette, lol.
Funny enough, I was teasing my lawyer-uncle this weekend about using 20 multi-syllabic words to convey something simple. I asked him if this was a product of law school. Apparently, I must now eat crow, as you seem to prove that unnecessary babbling is not a trait common to lawyers. Instead, I think it may be a family trait, since my feedback is now longer than your drabble.

Date: 2010-12-27 03:37 am (UTC)I admit that I find drabbles difficult and challenging, which is why I sometimes offer to do them, because it's good to challenge yourself as a writer. :-) So I'm glad they seem to work so well and that you enjoy them so much!
Law schools actually teach you to talk a lot about what's not important, for misdirectional purposes!
