Oh god, the washing machine saga sounds TERRIBLE and also horrifyingly familiar. When I lived in Port I had a machine that was both washer and dryer and the exact same thing happened to me - it wasn't draining or drying. Only it was trying to dry whilst floods of water were still in the drum and of course the clothes were sopping wet. I finally ended up driving everything to the Laundromat and using their super, industrial, fast dryer to dry my sodden clothes (since it was winter and hanging them outside would not have helped)
It's funny I read this today since we had a snow day exactly as you described and I totally used it as an excuse to stay inside, drink hot chocolate, catch up on lj and watch stuff. I feel like this was an effective use of my time!
Tomorrow I'm supposed to go see 10 Things I Hate About You in the theatre but if the weather keeps up I might just stay in with tea and my laptop instead.
