“It is the most hideous thing I’ve ever seen,” proclaimed Sherlock.

John secretly agreed that the tree-topper was horrible. But… “It was my parents’. They put it on the tree every year. When I was really little, my father would pick me up so I could put it on the top.”

“Sentiment,” said Sherlock, with a disapproving sniff.

“You know, you’re one to talk.”

“What does that mean?”

“You, pretending not to be sentimental. You keep all of my case notes.”

“So?” asked Sherlock, defensively.

“Sentiment,” said John, echoing Sherlock’s scoff.

Sherlock’s mouth opened and closed noiselessly. John kissed him.
