Author's Notes - Here is how I feel about seasons of this show: I feel like I've invited a couple of friends over, and basically they play with my toys and make this huge mess, and when they leave I'm like, "Damn it, now I have to clean this all up."

Here's my clean-up. It's not the first fix-it fic I've written this hiatus (I KNOW, RIGHT?), and it probably won't be my last (I need another really long hiatus, honestly; I need to get as much done as I can before they make a mess again). I am, however, absurdly pleased with the premise of this one. I felt like, if I didn't do it, someone else would, and quickly, so this fic basically ate my brain for ten days or so.

It's a fairly Mary-neutral fic (I think she has three lines in the whole thing?), but it's as Mary-neutral as a fic can get when the endgame is John/Sherlock. Don't let the character list for this chapter fool you on that point. Also, the timeline of this show is a mess. I went with the blog, which puts John and Mary's wedding at the end of July, and not with the show, which has it in the middle of May.

Important announcement! This fic has a playlist! You can find it here. You can also find playlists now for The Bang & the Clatter (it jumps from Tchaikovsky to "Dirty Water" and I find that strangely appropriate for the fic) and an in-flux one for Nature & Nurture (because it's still being written).

Thank you, as usual, to [livejournal.com profile] flawedamythyst for the Britpick and [livejournal.com profile] arctacuda for the beta. They both have made this fic better.

Chapter One )
earlgreytea68: (Smoking)

I've spent a lot of time, since the first time I watched "His Last Vow," thinking about all the things I disliked about how this season was handled. So I thought, in advance of the second time I watch "His Last Vow" tonight, that I would do a positive entry. Because, actually, on balance, I think I loved passionately a lot more than I hated, it's just human nature to focus on the bad. But the truth is that this series actually gave me more good than I would ever have wished for. In fact, everything in the list below was completely unexpected to me, and I'm so delighted to have been given it.

So here are my top 5 things from series 3.
