And The Reichenbach Fall, Again
Jan. 15th, 2012 11:07 pmThat episode, like, almost killed me. I was stressed out through basically the whole thing, watching it while biting my nails, AND I DO NOT EVEN BITE MY NAILS. But, like, seriously, I was practically sick to my stomach while watching this episode. IT WAS BREAKING MY HEART. EVERYONE WAS SO SAD. NO, SHERLOCK, DON'T BE SAD WHEN YOU THINK JOHN CAN'T SEE YOU. NO, MYCROFT, DON'T BE ALL WORRIED ABOUT SHERLOCK. NO, LESTRADE, PLEASE DON'T BELIEVE SALLY. Which means, really, that this episode was really well done and I have no idea what happened to "The Blind Banker" because apparently this Steve Thompson fellow (IF INDEED THAT IS HIS REAL NAME) can write.
So the episode's going along, and I'm stressed out, but I'm doing well, and Sherlock's having his phone conversation with John, and I'm so impressed with myself that I'm not crying, I'm doing so well...and then Martin Freeman with his face goes to Sherlock's grave and has that speech and yes, sobs, full-on sobs, could-not-catch-my-breath-was-missing-lines sobs. MARTIN FREEMAN AND YOUR FACE, STOP IT.
And now. And now do you know what's going to happen? Well, AT BEST they are going to make us wait probably well over a year. I plan to re-read "The Empty House" something akin to seven million times. And read everyone else's re-tellings of "The Empty House."
I also need to watch the episode again so I can gather together actual thoughts but I can't do that now or I'll never go to sleep because that episode winds me up too much. But, in the meantime, I give you this. You're welcome.

Date: 2012-01-18 04:27 am (UTC)The stories are fantastic, but very different from the show. It's weird, the show is a wonderful tribute, but the stories have a very different tone to them, because they're very Victorian.

And then the camera turned and showed herlock watching and THEN I was all, "OH, YOU ASSHOLE."

Date: 2012-01-16 01:47 pm (UTC)I could definitely see the same hand in big chunks of the plot of this one, but apparently the guy can write emotion (and we know that the actors can kill that as well, which helps), so in future they should always give this guy some angst to chew on. Always. It's just better for everyone that way.

Date: 2012-01-16 07:39 pm (UTC)Molly Hooper. Damn, Molly Hooper. What a brilliant, brilliant use of her character. I love that she understands Sherlock so much better than anyone realized. And it completely makes sense that she would be involved in the faking of Sherlock's death (though how they did it, exactly, I don't know). By making the final confrontation at St. Barts, he could guarantee that his "body" ended up in her morgue. Also, probably, control the scene a bit (I noticed that John is kept from getting too close to him). Ultimately, I'm sure Mycroft is/will be involved (as that's canon and Sherlock will undoubtedly need his assistance for one thing or another), but I wouldn't put it past Sherlock to let him suffer a bit, thinking his little brother is dead.
Definitely need to watch this episode again!

Date: 2012-01-19 03:33 am (UTC)Oh, *Molly.* It was such a brilliant, wonderful thing to do with her character, and I loved it so much. And yes, she was so perfectly positioned to help him out. It just made so much sense, it didn't feel shoehorned at all. Ha! At first I was convinced Mycroft was in on it from the start, but now I kind of like the idea that Sherlock tortured him a little bit first.

It was almost a ruse Sherlock himself would be proud of.
(Though I was underwhelmed with "Pink" and really loved "Banker", oddly enough.)
