earlgreytea68: (Watson)

This and the longer Thoughts on the Elementary Pilot Episode that I'm shortly going to post were originally posted on Tumblr, and then I realized that Tumblr is kind of terrible for using as a *words* blog and it was kind of a pain for me to find these again in the huge amounts of things I blog and reblog on Tumblr so I'm reposting them here so that, if I ever go back looking for them, I'll actually be able to find them...

—Well, at least the girl being murdered at the beginning isn’t a blonde. Usually it’s a blonde, and then I freak out, because I am blonde.

—Excellent song! I approve of the song choice!

—All Sherlock Holmes stories have to start with Watson. Watson alone. They have to.

—Is Sherlock Holmes shagging that random chick? What was that all about?

—Sooooo he *was* shagging that random chick? I…don’t quite know what to make of that. It’s…Huh.

—Does New York have cell service in the subways? I can’t tell if that’s impressive or annoying.

—I like that Watson kind of just follows along with him. I wish she was doing it because he’s irresistible, because I think that all incarnations of Holmeses should be irresistible to Watson, but, well, I like that she’s following him.

—Ha! The personal valet thing is the first thing I’ve really liked since the song choice. That seems Holmesian to me.

—So it seems like he has a good relationship with the police?

—I do hope they’re going to examine further Watson’s lack of doctor-ness. I think that would be an important thing to talk about more.

—I wish Holmes didn’t have to goad Watson into going with him to the crime scene. I really do wish I felt like Watson liked Holmes, at least a little, by this point.

—Whatever, Watson, why is it your job to decide if it’s the best time to conduct a murder investigation? You’re not the police. At all. Even a little bit. I found that very odd, that she seemed to want to take charge of what he could and could not say during the investigation. I know they intended it to indicate her compassion, but still, struck me as odd.

—Ha! He has girl’s feet. I enjoyed that line.

—So, weirdly, because I really like Lucy Liu, I am being way more annoyed by Watson than by Holmes right now. I find her…not very Watsonian. I guess we should blame Martin Freeman for this, because I’m very protective of Watson as a character these days.

—I like that Holmes loves what he does. Holmes should love what he does. Good.

—Okay, so the opera thing comes a bit out of nowhere, but I actually found it sweet. It’s one of the first things Watson’s done that I actually like.

—So Holmes made up a story to spare Watson’s feelings. Hmm.

—I don’t know what Watson thought was going to happen when she kept asking Holmes questions about her past.

—So I see the obvious comic value in Holmes tracking Watson down at the opera. I just don’t know why he did it. Just the night before he’d told her to take a holiday. Now he wants her around always? Is it just because he needed her to tell him what Xanax looked like, because I feel like he could have Googled that.

—Ha! “Not even on key.” That’s another good line.

—You’re in New York, Holmes, go and get a cab instead of asking for a ride.

—Ah, I see, Watson’s magical abilities in interrogating people have made her indispensable to Holmes.

—I like Watson’s beret. Very cute. And I like the atmospheric foggy weather in this scene.

—…What was the point of Holmes confronting the murderer like that? I guess he proved himself right?

—Why is Holmes apologizing to Watson here? Didn’t she start to tell him about her past herself? And then ask him how he knew about her past?

—Well, I agree with the assessment that Holmes can connect to people, he just doesn’t like to do so.

—Ohhhhh, I like the rice thing! My father put his cell phone in the wash by accident, and rice was recommended to us by everyone!

—Okay, the best part about this new Watson is that she likes baseball.

—THIS BASEBALL PART IS MY BASEBALL AU. SERIOUSLY. THIS IS THE BEST PART OF THIS WHOLE EPISODE.
