Somebody thought it would be a good idea for the Red Sox to start their season in Japan. NOT ME. Because of this, I had to get up at the ungodly hour of 5:15 (otherwise known as "sleeping in" for [personal profile] jlrpuck) in order to get to a Red Sox party for the 6 a.m. start. I suppose it was a possibility to just, you know, let the Red Sox open their season and not watch the game, but that would have been a TRAVESTY. So I went, tugging along champagne and mimosas. It was freezing, it was dark, it was early, and I woke up with a sore throat that I haven't shaken since. It's a proper cold, and I blame the Red Sox for the fact that I've been sluggish all week. But they won, so I can't complain. Even if we had given up on the season by 6:30 a.m. due to Dice-K's inability to throw a strike. And I was pretty tipsy by 9:30 a.m. Which is always a good way to start a day. God, I love having baseball back.

WE CAME IN FIRST AT PUB QUIZ. On a night where only [profile] arctacuda, [profile] bscotchpuma, and I went, and I was sick, and the categories were rubbish, WE BEAT 28 OTHER TEAMS TO COME IN FIRST. All due credit to [profile] arctacuda, for knowing the most random thing about Chris Tucker ever.

So. There's that conquered then. On to the next challenge. Which is [personal profile] rosa_acicularis's How I Met the Doctor meme. Hahahaha! I shall have such fun with this!

I adore sleep. Sleep is good. Sleep is very, VERY good. But, well...work calls. And if I want to have time for my morning cuppa joe, as well as time to post, I need to be in by 7. The up side? I usually get to leave around 3:30 or 4.

I miss sleeping in, no question--snuggled down in my flannel sheets, the mattress warmer on low so the bed is just right--cozy, not too hot, not too cold. I get to sleep in tomorrow, actually--which is the only reason I'm up this late tonight. Well, that and [livejournal.com profile] chicklet73 got me a bit wound up a few hours ago. ;)

I still think that's a ridiculously long day.

Eh, it's just a cold. Apparently, my electrolytes are low.

Crazy! I never wake up naturally at that hour!

When I told people down here about the early-morning Red Sox parties, they were rather gobsmacked. I don't think Miamians are capable of understanding that level of fanaticism. They like the Marlins alright when they do cool things like beat the Yankees in the World Series with a payroll approximately 1/4 of what the Evil Empire has. Otherwise, it's all, "Whaaat? Baseball's back? Um, okay."

It was a little extreme, these 6 a.m. parties. But it's the sort of thing that you say you did for the Red Sox and people are like, "Oh. Yes. Of course," and nod.

All of the bars (minus the martini/upscale ones) opened at 7am for opening day. It takes some serious devotion to the Sox to go to a bar that early in the morning, if you ask me. Or, you know, serious devotion to beer.

Actually, although the bars near me were open at 5:30, they weren't allowed to serve liquor until 8 or something. So it was better to be at a private party!

Yeah, I was surprised the locals were allowed to open that early, at all. I live in New Hampshire, which has fairly strict blue laws, and the town with the bars (which is not the town in which I live--my town has mountains and farms and that's pretty much it. Rural life is totally complicated) is even more stringent.

Dude, srsly. My Local State School had RIOTS last season. RIOTS. Students tipped cars and lit their mattresses on fire. ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. It was maximum ridiculous.

Congratulations on the pub quiz win! Huzzah!

But wow - 5:15am. *dies* Now that's devotion...the only time I'm up at that hour of the morning is if I'm still awake from the night before...

Hope you feel better soon!
