Advent Drabble 21 - Books (for haeronwen)

The library in Eames’s dream was enormous, two-story, with a ladder reaching up to the second level. While the rest of the team was running through the plan, Arthur found himself lost in the bookshelves in Eames’s head, which were populated with an astonishingly eclectic range. When Arthur pulled books off the shelves, they all had actual words in them.

“Snooping?” Eames asked, startling him.

“Quality control,” Arthur lied.

“I can make a library, Arthur. I have read books.”

“It’s beautiful in here,” Arthur said honestly. “I didn’t know I’d…” Love it.

Eames smiled like he’d said that out loud.

EAMES: No, wait, we don't have time, also you weren't supposed to do that and—

ARTHUR: Eames. Why is the title of this book Arthur and I: A Gay Romance.

EAMES: I... I don't know where this book comes from.

ARTHUR: And this one is The Viscount And The Hot Shepherd.

EAMES: It's a historical essay. Nothing to do with you aND NO DON'T LOOK AT THE PICTURES.

ARTHUR [looking at the pictures]: I'm not sure I'm that... bendable.

EAMES: Listen, I can expl...

ARTHUR: So is the whole library filled with books about you and me?

EAMES: Don't be ridiculous. Of course it's not.

ARTHUR: [a tiny bit disappointed] Oh. Well, it's, er...

EAMES: [noticing his disappointment] I mean, I also have paintings.

ARTHUR: Oh my God.

EAMES [waggling his eyebrows]: I love realist painting.

ARTHUR: Oh my fucking God.
