So I made the decision to watch the baseball game rather than Doctor Who, and I'm so glad I did. Why? BECAUSE I WATCHED CLAY BUCHHOLZ PITCH A NO-HITTER.

Now who is this kid? I have no idea. It was his second Major League start, and he looks like he's eight years old. But he pitched himself a no-hitter. And the lengths that the announcers went to not to say the word "no-hitter" while it was in progress--because that jinxes it obviously--were quite comical. In the seventh, Dustin Pedroia made a truly phenomenal play, and the crowd at Fenway gave him an ovation, and the announcers were like, "Well, when stuff is happening like the stuff happening in this game tonight, that play's a big deal." As the eighth wore on, the announcers kept saying, "We're just going to show you the scoreboard," and the camera would pan over the line, and the announcers would add, helpfully, "It's that second column we're paying attention to." As they recapped the game, not going to commercial between the bottom of the eighth and the top of the ninth, they said, "Three walks. Only batters to reach. That's it." With a meaningful pause, so that we'd catch the implication. It was quite lovely. I've never watched one of those before. I was a wreck the entire ninth inning. I don't know how they managed to go out there and play it. And then, when it was over, Buchholz actually cried. How incredibly adorable is that?!

And then, I switched over, and BBCA was on "The Doctor Dances," aka Almost Best Episode Ever (I think "Utopia" took that crown for me, in the end). It was, like, perfect timing, the entire evening.
