Advent Drabble 11 - Backpacking

Eames says, “It’s exactly the sort of grand adventure we’ve been preparing her for her entire life. You’re the one who always said you wanted to raise her not to be scared, that she started her life in fear and that was enough for a lifetime. Backpacking around Europe is a thoroughly sensible way to be fearless. She’s going with friends we like and trust. She’s clever, resourceful, she’s our daughter. She’ll thrive. Exactly as you wanted.”
“It isn’t that I don’t realize that,” Arthur replies. “It’s that I thought it was going to take a little longer to happen.”
