Do not pack when you are sick. This is the primary lesson learned from this trip. Not that it could be helped. Who would have predicted that I'd abruptly come down with a vicious 24-hour bug the night before we were supposed to leave? Well, I suppose I could have predicted it, my luck and my immune system being what they are, but I didn't predict it, so that I was nauseous to a fault when I packed. This meant that I packed haphazardly but it also meant that I was suddenly terrified of being too warm. This is a fear I only have when I am nauseous, the only thing in the world I can think of worse than being nauseous would be being hot and nauseous. So yes, I packed three-quarter sleeve shirts, and sneakers, and a couple of sweatshirts but I was not at all prepared for the shock that 60 degrees feels like when you've gotten used to 90. I had a tank top and flip-flops on from Boston: these were unaccpetable in Edinburgh.

The weird thing is that it is just as bright in Scotland at 8 at night as it is as 8 in the morning. I was all thrown off to awake and find it looked exactly the same in the room as it had when I'd fallen asleep.
